Beaches are a great space for recreational activities, for resting or for just staring at the wonders of nature. Besides the 5000 Mexico beaches located in the Pacific and the Baja Peninsula, the Gulf and Yucatan Peninsula, here is a comprehensive list of the top five beaches in the world:

1) Anse Sourse D’Argent, La Digue, Seychelles - Has been voted many times over as the best beaches in the world. It is a visual treat for camera lovers and is an amazing place for retreat. Picture this: dark granite boulders on a white sand beach. Regarded as one of nature’s precious beauties, Anse Sourse D’Argent offers hiking, surfing and windsurfing, at its best around May and October; while diving, swimming and snorkeling are suitable for April/May and October/November.

2) South Beach, Miami, Florida - Appreciated by Miami locals, as well as most other Americans, South Beach is a great place to check out various cultural activities. A luxurious stay in a tropical locale is what the Miami Beach life offers you. For entertainment, one can take pleasure in wind surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling and deep-sea fishing. Winters are a good time to visit.

3) Pink Sands Beach, Harbor Island, the Bahamas - A quieter and more serene place, one of the popular Caribbean beaches, Pink Sands Beach boasts of large expanses of powder-like pink sands. Snorkeling and surfing are activities that can be enjoyed here. The best time to visit Harbor Island would be from December to April, though you must keep in mind that at this time the hotel rates are relatively high. Beginning in May, avoid visiting the place so as to not be caught in hurricanes. Pink Sands Beach also has cottages designed by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki to ensure your privacy and comfort. The rooms are luxuriously fitted with all amenities, like a television with DVD player, telephone, and free wireless access in the lobby area, a library and so forth.

4) Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - The name of the beach clearly gives away its essence - summer. And that is also the time when you should plan a trip to Ipanema Beach. Known famously as the “Bikini Beach,” Ipanema has been quite a trendsetter. Besides needing a minimum of clothing, one can practice sports like beach volleyball, soccer and surfing.

5) Clifton Beach, Cape Town, South Africa - Being just a 30-minute drive from the city centre, it is justifiably touted as the “big city beach.” One of the major attractions of Cape Town, Clifton Beach is located between Sea Point and Camps Bay. Its four beaches are the just the right thing for beach lovers who want to relax. The fourth beach is the busiest, with youngsters indulging in volleyball, walking around or sunbathing. A good decision would be to plan a visit in October or April, when the weather is good and crowds are nominal. Usually the water is cold, which makes it important for one to carry warm clothes.
